When I joined Medium one month ago, I had no clue what I was doing or what I wanted. I could feel these creative juices flowing from within, but it had been a long time since I actively let them pour out of me. So, I committed myself to writing every day for thirty days, and I did! There was never an end goal, it was simply an exercise in building my creative muscles.

This experience has truly opened my eyes to the power of vulnerability. Sharing my thoughts and experiences with everyone has invited genuine engagement from a wide variety of readers. People I’ve known for years have reached out to reconnect with me. People I’ve never met have opened up to me about their own life experiences. The outreach and support from friends and total strangers have been so positive and uplifting.

I’ve always felt this innate desire to help people in whatever way I could. When I sing, it’s not the attention that I enjoy, quite frankly, I hate the attention. What I love about singing is the ability to use my voice to stir emotions, to move people, make them feel something real from within. Music is therapeutic, it’s psychedelic- without the drugs, it’s transportive. I’ve sung at weddings, funerals, graduations, parties…you name it. The best compliment you can ever receive is that you’ve moved someone, reminded them of a specific moment in their lives, or evoked true thought and emotion. I could care less about what you thought of my voice, what brings me total satisfaction is knowing that my voice helped you feel something.

It’s been the same experiencing with my writing, it’s really not about being validated. Whether you think I’m a good writer or not, matters little to me. When someone tells me they’ve really connected to something I’ve said, I feel genuine gratitude. It empowers me to continue being vulnerable and speaking my truth because I know it can positively impact someone’s day! If I can inspire someone to be more conscious, or take action in their lives, that means more than any compliment ever could. That is what brings me back to this site every day, it motivates, inspires, and humbles me.

It’s been an absolute joy waking up every day and sharing my thoughts with this community. I appreciate everyone who took the time to read, clap, comment, or connect with me along the way. You have given me the strength to continue exploring a voice I’ve never used before. I’m committed to continuing on this path and growing as a writer.

My goal in the next 30 days, is to continue writing daily, I just won’t be publishing as much! I’m want to spend more time on my articles, submit my pieces to publishers, get published, and continue growing my audience. I look forward to writing my own series, collaborating with other writers, reaching 1000 followers, and becoming a top writer on Medium. It’s an ambitious feat, but I’m putting it out into the universe and hoping it manifests into something great!

Here’s to the next 30 days, and then another 30 days, and then another, and another… Well, you get the point. I really look forward to continuing this journey with you!

Peace and love,
Matty ❤
